This needs assessment, commissioned by CARE Afghanistan and conducted by TAR Business Consulting in January 2025, aimed to evaluate the pressing needs of communities in 10 remote districts of Herat, Ghazni, and Khost provinces. The assessment focused on key areas: health, nutrition, education, and disaster risk reduction, to inform future interventions. These districts, affected by decades of conflict, displacement, and natural disasters, face unique challenges that require targeted solutions. The assessment utilized qualitative methods, with 40 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) conducted across the districts. Each district hosted two male and two female FGDs to ensure gender-inclusive data collection. A total of 56 participants contributed in Herat, 129 in Khost, and 133 in Ghazni, reflecting diverse community perspectives. Trained facilitators adhered to standardized guidelines, ensuring consistency and data quality across the FGDs.
